Banksy and the World of Street Art

Banksy may be one of the most influential street artist of all time. His work is unique compared to other street art. This has created an entirely different art subculture developed from his work. I’ve always been fascinated with Banksy. He is a man of mystery, he has never revealed his identity to the world. Of course there are guesses out there but no ones knows for sure. I think part of the reason people find him so interesting is that fact that he says what everyone is to afraid to say. The fact that he doesn't reveal his identity makes people more involved in his art rather than His work is alway relevant and touches on major issues in our world, whether it be general life lesson or very specific issues that relate to the world. Banksy is the unofficial eyes and ears of the world. An artist knows they are doing something right when they receive a major reaction from their work. Banksy’s work gets a wide range of reactions. Often his work is praised, and cities have put up protectors over them. In other cases people have been so outraged they have painted over or destroyed the work. All of his work carries a message not just in the actual work itself but in the location of the work it self. Location is very import to the message trying to be conveyed in his work.

Banksy as an artist is very modern in his ways. He has no forms of social media besides Instagram, which is where he posts his new work. This past march he revealed on his Instagram his latest work, two pieces in New York City.

Showing his work on Instagram has enabled his work to not only reach his 2.1 million followers but has allowed his work to go viral. When he post his art his followers are updated on his location

This is one of my favorite. Depicted is a man holding wilted flowers with a glum look on his face. Upon further inspection you can see that the man is painted on the shutter of the Hustler Club in New York City. This is a perfect example of the unique perspective that Banksy has when he creates his work.
